The energy transition is no longer under discussion. With everyone involved convinced of its necessity, we should make sure that it commences as efficiently, smoothly and profitably as possible. And we should do so now. In a rapidly evolving landscape, the decisions we all make in 2023 will decide whether we can come out on top – or be left behind. According to our experts, the energy transition requires new tech, new skills and a new carbon-conscious mindset. In Empowering the Energy Sector, our experts explain what you need to do to make sure that you’re ready to make the transition.

With energy prices through the roof, it may be a good idea to start talking about energy independence. And that’s exactly what we did, in a new podcast on smart energy grids. In the podcast, Capgemini Engineering Principal Solution Manager Tom van de Ven gets together with Thierry Batut, Capgemini’s CTO on Smart Utilities. Tom and Thierry conclude that the way we build energy grids and power plants hasn’t changed 100 years – but change is exactly what’s required, if we want to keep the grid balanced and secure our energy supply. We need an agile, smart environment, with multi-directional energy flows. The impact on this of IT-OT integration is huge – and cybersecurity is a constant factor. All in all, Tom and Thierry have a lot to discuss.

Capgemini and Eneco, a group of companies active in the field of renewable energy and innovation, energy trade and retail, have announced a commitment to reduce Eneco’s CO2 emissions by one megaton through joint initiatives across scopes 1, 2 and 31 by 2030. This is part of a broader 10-year agreement between Capgemini and Eneco to accelerate Eneco’s transition towards sustainable energy, and help meet its ambition of becoming carbon neutral by 2035.

The future of energy supply is in flux right now. Due to recent events, the procurement of oil and gas is challenging to say the least. It’s yet another good reason to wean ourselves from fossil fuels. And of course, the primary reason to change course is becoming more urgent every day: climate change. Against this backdrop, we published WEMO 2022 late last year. And because of the highly volatile circumstances, we’re constantly keeping track of developments, and publishing new content to share our latest insights. For example, we’ve recently blogged about Scope 3 emissions. These are emissions resulting from the whole supply chain, but that remain critically underreported – and unmitigated as a result. In our blog, we offer a perspective on how we can target this Scope together. You can find the report here, and we’re regularly adding new instalments of our Invent Talks.
